An account of the trip down south 18th September 2011

It was early Sunday morning as we made our way to the pickup point for the coach.

Rennies transport had been booked to supply the coach and it was parked waiting as we turned the corner, we had set off early to get the coach too!!

The drivers were polite and courteous as we boarded and with no one else getting on at Lochgelly we headed off. Glenrothes was the next pick up point, Jill, Brian and Melanie were there waiting then off again to Kirkcaldy. George, Keiran, Cloe, Lyndsey, Colin, and Susan, were all waiting to go. The last pick up was at the car park for the Odeon cinema area at Dunfermline, John, Jean, Eric, Amee, Wilma, Laurie, Fraser, and Jim got on and we headed south.

The trip down was good with everyone chatting, sleeping or admiring the scenery.

Fraser - showing off his new laptop

We stopped at Southwaite services for breakfast, two English breakfasts for a tenner wasn't too bad and a cup of tea and we were on again for Bolton.

We reached Bolton at around 10.15am, a good look around, not a huge choice, but something worth buying for most of us. (see the list for all the fish that some of the members bought during the trip)

Onto Wigan pier, much better and Neil had even laid on tea/coffee/soft drinks and biscuits for us, great and much appreciated. The members really enjoyed making their way from tank to tank deciding which selection of fish to buy. The staff were very helpful, taking care to catch the fish for us, thank you.

I am sure I left it in here!

On again to Maidenhead aquatics at Wigan, our thanks to Charlotte and Alison and the rest of the staff there, for having ordered the fish that John and Laurie had pre-ordered, Ellassoma Evergladei, and Aphyosemion Amieti. Laurie got his but unfortunately John didn't, they reckoned that due to the small size of them that they may have been sucked into the filter system!

Back in the coach and we headed for our last stop at North lakes aquatics at Penrith, unfortunately due to less passing trade and perhaps hobbyists not having the spare cash, the shop was carrying very few selections of fish compared to previous years. Two whole banks of tanks were empty and unlit, and even the coldwater tanks were empty! We hope things improve for Sid the owner there. They did have some nice discus there costing around £25 each for various strains.

We then headed down to the local fish shop to get the cooked version!!! Together with chips!!!

From there we headed north again, heading home, members dropped off again at their pick up points, complete with poly boxes full of their fish.

Another, very enjoyable day out, with the club.
